Maintenance Guide for Furniture Fabrics – Orka Home
At Orka Home, we understand that you want to enjoy your sofa or bed for as long as possible. Proper maintenance extends the life of your furniture and preserves its appearance. Below, you'll find the best care instructions for each fabric type for optimal results.

1. Velvet (Velvet – smooth & firm pile)
Velvet is a delicate fabric with a rich appearance. While durable, it requires some care to maintain its beauty.

Maintenance tips:
Vacuum regularly with a soft furniture brush to remove dust and crumbs.

You can carefully roughen up seat mirrors (flattened hairs) with a clothes brush or steam (without direct contact).

Use a textile protection spray to prevent stains.

Stain? Blot immediately with a dry cloth – do not rub.

💡 Firm-pile velvet is slightly less sensitive to "pressure points" and therefore more user-friendly in intensive households.

2. Teddy / Bouclé
Teddy is soft and fluffy, yet surprisingly resistant to everyday wear and tear. Most teddy fabrics these days are treated to be stain-resistant.

Maintenance tips:
Vacuum weekly on low suction to prevent dust build-up.

Use a lint roller or clothes brush to keep fibers neat.

Small stains? Dab them with a damp cloth and lukewarm water and a mild soap solution.

💡 Do not use hard brushes – they can damage the loop structure.

3. Synthetic Water Repellent Fabrics (such as polyester and olefin)
These fabrics are ideal for families, children and pets because of their dirt and water repellent properties.

Maintenance tips:
Vacuuming or wiping with a damp cloth is usually sufficient.

In case of stains: use a soft cloth and a neutral all-purpose cleaner.

Don’t let spilled liquid soak in – blot it up immediately with a paper towel.

💡 Always check whether the fabric is removable: many synthetic covers are machine washable (30°C, without fabric softener).

4. Wool Fabrics (wool and wool blends)
Wool is a natural material that exudes warmth and luxury. It has natural dirt-repellent properties, but requires gentle care.

Maintenance tips:
Vacuum gently and regularly to remove dust and lint.

Stains? Use a slightly damp cloth with natural soap (such as ox gall soap).

Avoid rubbing – this can damage the fibers.

Don't use too much water; wool dries slowly.

💡 Air wool furniture regularly – this prevents musty odors.

5. Linen & Linen Mix
Linen is light, airy and natural, but it wrinkles more easily and is more susceptible to stains.

Maintenance tips:
Vacuum gently with an upholstery nozzle.

Use a fabric protector to prevent stains.

For small stains: clean gently with lukewarm water and a drop of dishwashing liquid.

Linen covers? Check the care label. Many linen blends can be washed at a low temperature.

💡 Do not use bleach or harsh stain removers – they will damage the natural fibres.
